Why living sustainably is SO much easier than living the "ordinary way"
I'm starting to understand sects. Not that living a sustainable lifestyle is comparable to a sect (or maybe it is?), but I'm beginning to realise that sticking to certain rules makes your life so soooo much easier: Like: "don't buy anything packaged in plastic" or "pray every day five times to the dark force using this magic stick."
I used to be overwhelmed with choices. And I wanted them all.
If you try to avoid producing waste and only support ethically sourced products (you truly need!), your choices are very limited. "Hm, which chocolate should I go for?" Well, that one fair trade chocolate packaged in paper. Forget about the other 1745 types. And to begin with: "do I really need this chocolate or do I maybe have something similar at home?" (Maybe I can still scratch something out of that organic Nutella knock-off jar?) I don't know if it's sad or sustainable, but these are my thoughts these days.
Life is so complex and multi-layered and choices are plenty, I feel it makes everything just so much easier if you're aware of your values. You're immediately able to discard anything that doesn't fit into the ethical code you believe in. (I know that sounds a bit narrow-minded, but, like, in a good way... Sometimes you have to be radical to move forward.) As a result, you have plenty of time and energy to invest in other things; things that truly matter.
So, for everyone thinking going Zero Waste or adopting a minimalist lifestyle is really really hard, I tell you: It is so much easier!! (But only if you truly believe in it... just like a sect *lol*. If you don't quite want to live that way, sure it will be hard to force yourself.)
